From champagne socialite to share-house scandal – a long way from penthouses and private jets
Brynne Edelsten was once the poster girl for designer dresses, flashy cars and high-society selfies. She now finds herself living in a cramped $300-a-week apartment in a rough part of Fitzroy in Melbourne. The optics alone are brutal, but the reality is far worse than the postcode downgrade suggests.
That dramatic downgrade alone tells a story, but the details revealed in court make it far more confronting. Police allege her modest home was anything but empty, describing it as a “treasure trove of drugs.”
During a search or rather raid of the property, officers allegedly found methamphetamine, ketamine and a date rape drug. The discovery marked a stunning contrast to the carefully curated image Edelsten once projected.
It was a moment that crystallised just how far she has fallen.
How police ended up at her front door
The court heard that Edelsten came under police scrutiny after her co-accused allegedly sent parcels of methamphetamine from Melbourne to Tasmania in October 2025. That alleged trafficking activity is said to have triggered the initial tip-off to authorities. Police then moved in to search Edelsten’s Fitzroy apartment. What they reportedly uncovered raised immediate and serious concerns about her level of involvement.
Magistrate Brett Sonnet said there was “no doubt Edelsten was either a significant user or a significant trafficker”. He went further, describing the home as a “treasure trove of drugs,” a phrase that landed heavily in court. Investigators now face a lengthy process, up to 12 months to analyse the data on her phone, according to 7News. This data will provide evidence about her level of involvement in any alleged drug trafficking. Or not.
Courtroom denials and a familiar pattern
Edelsten denied having any knowledge of the illicit substances allegedly found in her home. She appeared visibly distressed throughout the hearing, which took place on Tuesday, 30 December 2025.
However, the court was told this was not her first time in serious legal trouble. Previously, drug matters have followed her for years, though she managed to avoid conviction on those occasions. This drug history was not lost on the magistrate when considering the current charges. In May 2021, Edelsten was arrested and charged with trafficking drugs (ice) and suspected proceeds of crime. She later avoided conviction. In 2015, she faced charges in Perth for possession of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Edelsten was granted bail. Her release came with strict conditions, including reporting to a police station three times a week.
The billionaire marriage that defined her public image

Much of Edelsten’s public profile was built during her marriage to flamboyant businessman Geoffrey Edelsten, the former owner of the Sydney Swans. The couple married in January 2009, instantly attracting headlines due to their 46-year age gap. Their marriage lasted just over three turbulent years before they separated in 2012.
The relationship unravelled amid allegations of infidelity, volatility and public humiliation. Their divorce was finalised in 2014, marking the end of Edelsten’s access to extreme wealth. Geoffrey Edelsten later died in June 2021 at the age of 78. Since then, Brynne’s downward spiral has been increasingly difficult to ignore.
A fall from privilege with consequences attached
Once celebrated as a glamorous socialite, Edelsten now stands accused of offences that carry serious legal consequences.
The court has made it clear that the quantity and variety of drugs allegedly found cannot be easily explained away. Her claim of ignorance may be tested when investigators finally access her phone data. If that evidence supports the prosecution case, the fallout could be severe.
What was once written off as eccentric behaviour now looks far more troubling. This is no longer a story about excess or bad choices made in private. It is a very public reckoning for someone who once appeared untouchable.
