  • Princess Catherine is officially in remission from cancer

Catherine announced on her and William’s social media accounts that she is now cancer-free

The Princess of Wales has completed her chemotherapy and is now in remission from an undisclosed cancer.

Catherine made an unannounced visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. It was unannounced to the media, but it was planned between the Princess, her office and the hospital. It was there at this visit Catherine made the announcement she was cancer free and in remission. Let’s hope it continues this way.

Catherine said:

I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.

My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.

We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.

In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.

It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. C

Catherine said she completed her chemotherapy a few months ago. And now that the medication worked, she is cancer free.

She stated that hospital was the one which treated her for her cancer. They did so without any pomp or ceremony. And she came back to say thanks to the hospital and give them publicity for the brilliant work they do.

Catherine stopped to speak to many people at the day centre getting treatment. She said she remembered getting a line in (of the chemotherapy drugs) too. After she left, when they were interviewed, they only had nice things to say about her. This was a selfless thing to do. And should be applauded.

When Catherine was leaving the Royal Marsden Hospital, this is the reception she received. Lots of staff who wanted to take photos of her. What an amazingly powerful photo.

Catherine received preventative chemotherapy after she underwent abdominal surgery. Routine tests after her abdominal surgery found cancer was present. Preventative chemotherapy is given before or after a primary treatment, such as surgery, to reduce the chance of a cancer returning or spreading. She is exceedingly lucky that the cancer was found when she had the surgery because if it was found later, it might not have been such a good outcome.
