  • King Charles and Queen Camilla jet off to Aberdeen for some time out

They’re taking time out to celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary

King Charlies and Queen (consort) Camilla arrived in Aberdeen, Scotland. They’re there for some rest and relaxation and to quietly celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary. They have officially been together since 1986 (almost 30 years), after Charles’ marriage to Diana had fallen apart.

They were actually involved in 1970. But when Charlies went away to the navy, Camilla married someone else – Andrew Parker Bowles. She wasn’t considered “royal marriage material anyway”. In those days it would have been difficult for Charles to defy his parents. Charles and Camilla started an affair in around 1978 or 1979, while she was married. Interestingly this affair was with the blessing of her then husband.

They celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on 11 April.

They’re staying in Birkhall, Aberdeen, which is one of Charles’ favourite places in Scotland. It belonged to his grandmother, the late Queen Mother. Charles stayed there when he was recuperating from prostate surgery in January this year.

The King is keen to go to more royal engagements. But he probably needs to continue to rest until he’s better from his chemotherapy treatment.

Rest well your majesty and get better.
